General Information
The Larned City Offices are open five days a week from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. City Hall is located at 417 Broadway.
Don Gaeddert - City Manager, Pam Corby - City Clerk and Frieda Smith - Building Inspector have offices at this location.
Building, electrical, plumbing and related permits and inspections: Permits may be obtained by contacting Frieda Smith, Building Inspector. She is also the Zoning Administrator and can answer questions regarding zoning and sub-division regulations.
Dog/Cat License: A yearly license is required for all dogs and cats within the City of Larned. Proof of rabies vaccination is necessary to obtain a license. Dogs and cats are not allowed to run at large, and dogs must wear license tags.
Cereal malt beverage licenses, occupation tax licenses, plumbing, electrical, mechanical licenses, solid waste hauling for commercial purposes, transient vendor licenses, and various other licenses are required in Larned. Before engaging in a business activity or door to door solicitation, you should check with City Hall for information on permissible activities.
The City owns and maintains the local cemetery located one mile west of Larned on West 8th Street. Records and maps are located at City Hall.
Reserve - a - Truck Program: The City operates a reserve - a -truck program in which a City dump truck may be requested for your neighborhood for a weekend of clean-up. The truck will be picked up on Monday morning and emptied at the landfill. A letter of agreement listing the rules and limitations, must be signed by the participant. The program operates in the spring and fall seasons of the year.
City residents take pride in the appearance of the business districts and neighborhoods; and property maintenance codes, abandoned vehicle laws, and landscape codes are enforced.
Pawnee County Economic Development Commission was formed in 1989 and shares an office with the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce at 502 Broadway.
Larned operates approximately 151 acres of parks with a swimming pool, tennis courts, baseball diamonds and a municipal golf course. The swimming pool is open during the summer months. Free summer season pool passes are given to 6, 7, 8, 9, 10th graders residing in Pawnee County.
Jordaan Memorial Library located at 724 Broadway is a fine asset to the community. It is a contracting member of the Central Kansas Library System and provides access to a number of research sources.
The Larned Community Center is located at 1500 North Toles. It has a 778 seat auditorium, gymnasium, kitchen and meeting facilities. Matt Miller is the director for Larned Recreation and can be reached at 285-6002 for reserving the facility for special events. The recreation program includes intramural sports and other activities throughout the year for youth and adults.
The Jordaan Community Room located in the Chamber of Commerce Building is maintained by the City. It has kitchen facilities and is available for rent by the public for gatherings and meetings. Contact the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce at 285-6916.
The Larned-Pawnee County Airport is located one mile north and one mile east of Larned. A 4200 foot paved and lighted runway with radio homing beacon is featured. Rental hangers and fuel facilities are available from the airport manager.
Larned has many committees which oversee various activities and set policy. Some of these include the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, Library Board, Recreation Commission, Airport Authority, Housing Authority, Tourism and Convention Committee and the Building Trades Board.
